2009 State Competition Notes:

The object was a blue paper plate flipped upside down. It had four corners of decorative plate paper, with the rounded edges lined up with the end of the plate, they formed an x. Then they had four squares of different color index cards so the lined up and overlapped to make a plus. There were star stickers on the edge of the plate and a bow at the 12 o’clock position pointing away from you. There were stickers on the 9 and 3 o’clock index cards. The also had gogley eyes. There were stickers holding up two pipe cleaners with beads on them.

The bag of items given to the doers was shown to the writers. There were ‘dummy objects’, or objects that weren’t to be used in the bag.

8 pieces were left out of the instructions and we still placed 4th.

Mini competition results notes-
If paper is curled, uncurl it by rolling it the reverse way
Stay in one place when you write. You can move to look (with the supervisor's permission), but always return to the same spot to write.
Sizes must be stated (paper is 8 1/2x 11 and BEIGE, smiley 1 inch diameter, butterfly 1/2 inch diameter)
One section was blank, state the obvious.
Use left, right, clock face directions, not NSEW.
Smiley face had brown eyes.
Orientation of objects must be stated (smiley, butterfly, etc upside down, sideways, vertical)
Can only use words, numbers, symbols from a normal keyboard, no diagrams
Must define all abbreviations
When you finish a section and move to a new one, give a summary-Done with the two items in this triangle
Don't assume your partner will see the grid lines on the paper, they may need to draw them ("x" on the paper goes from corner to corner and divides the paper into 4 triangles)
